Yesterday, cybersecurity thought leaders from around the world celebrated Data Privacy Day, an international effort held annually to create awareness about the importance of privacy and protecting personal information.
Led by the National Cyber Security Alliance, security experts shared safety tips for consumers on how to stay cyber-aware while on the go. Here are our top three favorite tips for keeping your mobile devise secure while on the move.
Think Before You App
Only use trusted apps. Information about you, such as the games you like to play, your contacts list, where you shop and your location, has value. Be thoughtful about the apps you download, and understand how your information is being used, collected, stored and shared.
Keep Your Mobile Apps Up To Date
Say yes to updates when prompted, as these typically address critical security vulnerabilities. Having the most up-to-date software is the best defense against viruses, malware and other threats. Remember, your mobile device is just as vulnerable as your computer – protect it!
Disable Location Services
You might be unknowingly broadcasting your location. For your own privacy and security, disable Wi-Fi or Bluetooth when not in use.
